Aspect Ratio Cropper
Every destination wants a different shape — Instagram, a video thumbnail, a print on the wall. Pick the ratio, drag and zoom until the frame feels right, and download the crop at full resolution. Everything happens on your device: nothing is uploaded, ever.

Why the ratio matters more than you think
Platforms do not just display your photo — they reshape the space around it. A 4:5 portrait on Instagram takes up noticeably more feed height than a landscape frame, so your photo gets more screen, more time and, usually, more attention before someone scrolls past. Stories and Reels live in 9:16, video thumbnails in 16:9, and a square 1:1 still reads cleanly almost everywhere. Print has its own quiet standards: 3:2 matches a standard 6×4 print, 5:4 fits a 10×8, and forcing a different shape at the lab means someone else — or some algorithm — decides what gets cut off. Cropping to the ratio yourself, here, means that decision stays yours.
Crop at full resolution, then resize if you need to
This tool exports the exact pixels inside your frame from the original file — no downscaling, no re-compression surprises beyond the format you pick. That order matters. Crop first, at full resolution, and you keep every option open: check the result against the print size calculator to see how big the cropped frame can still print, and only shrink a copy for the web afterwards with the image compressor. Resizing first and cropping later throws away pixels twice, and pixels are the one thing you cannot get back.
Cropping is the second composition
The first composition happens in the viewfinder; the second happens here. A crop can rescue a frame — straighten the emphasis, lose the distracting edge, give a subject room to breathe — but it cannot invent light or sharpness that was never captured. The photographers we admire crop least when they work hardest at capture: watching how natural light falls before pressing the shutter, and nailing focus so the frame survives a tight crop — the habits in our guide to taking sharp photos every time. Use the crop to refine a good photo, not to apologise for a rushed one.
Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The cropper runs entirely in your browser using its built-in image engine — your photo never leaves your device. You can verify it: load this page, switch to airplane mode, and the tool still works.
Does cropping reduce the quality of my photo?
The export is drawn from the original pixels inside the region you selected, at their full resolution — cropping removes the pixels outside the frame, it does not degrade the ones inside. Saving as JPEG re-encodes at high quality (92%), which is visually indistinguishable for photographs; choose PNG if you want a mathematically lossless file and do not mind the larger size.
Can I crop beyond the edges of the photo?
No — deliberately. The frame always stays inside your photo, and the tool zooms and pans only as far as the image covers the crop, so you can never export empty borders or stretched edges by accident. If you need more room around a subject, that room has to exist in the original frame.
