Before/After Maker
Put two versions of a photo side by side in a single image โ the original on one side of a gold divider, the result on the other. Drag the divider to the moment that tells the story, label each side, and download the comparison at full resolution. Everything happens on your device: nothing is uploaded, ever.

Add both photos to build the comparison โ the Before photo sets the frame, and the After photo sits behind the divider.
What before/after comparisons are for
A single finished photo asks the viewer to trust you. A before/after shows your working. That is why the format is everywhere an honest difference needs proving: a photographer showing what an edit actually did โ exposure rescued, colour graded, distractions cloned away โ a retoucher showing skin work that stays skin, a restorer bringing a faded family print back to life. The same idea travels well beyond photography: a room before and after a renovation, a garden across a season change, a product before and after cleaning. In every case the power is the same โ two frames, one divider, and a change nobody has to take your word for. The Before photo you add here sets the frame and the size; the After photo sits behind the divider, and the downloaded image freezes the divider exactly where you left it, so the split you chose is the split your audience sees.
Making a comparison that holds up: framing, size and honesty
The craft of a good comparison is mostly decided before you open this tool. Same framing first: the two shots convince only when nothing moves except the thing you changed. Shoot the second frame from the same spot, at the same focal length, with the camera level โ a tripod helps, and so does reviewing the first frame on screen while you line up the second. Same size second: pairs work best when both photos share the same dimensions and aspect ratio. If the ratios differ, this tool cover-fits (centre-crops) the second photo into the first photo's frame, which can cut away edges you wanted to keep. Fix it beforehand instead: match the ratios with our Aspect Cropper, then match the exact pixel dimensions with the Image Resizer โ two minutes of preparation, and both photos show in full, pixel-aligned. And say so: if the after is edited, retouched or restored, label it plainly โ the editable labels in this tool exist for exactly that. A comparison that admits it is showing an edit earns more trust than a retouched photo passed off as straight out of camera, every time.
Where to share it โ and signing your work first
A finished comparison is a single ordinary image file, so it goes anywhere a photo goes: your portfolio and blog, Instagram and Facebook posts, a client delivery gallery, a marketplace listing, or a proposal document where a client is deciding whether the work is worth paying for. JPG suits sharing almost everywhere; pick PNG when the image will be placed into a design or printed and every pixel matters. One step is worth taking before any of that, if the work is yours: run the comparison through our Watermark Studio and sign it quietly in a corner. Before/after images travel further than most โ they get reposted precisely because they are persuasive โ and a small mark is what points that borrowed audience back to the person who did the work. However you share it, remember the export is a still: the divider does not move in the downloaded file. Choose its position for the audience, not for yourself โ park it on the change itself, a face half-restored, a wall half-painted, so even a thumbnail tells the story.
Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The comparison is built in your browser using its built-in image engine. You can verify it: load this page, switch your device to airplane mode, and the tool still works. Both photos stay on your device from start to download.
What happens if my two photos are different sizes?
They still work. The Before photo sets the frame โ its aspect ratio and, for the download, its full resolution. The After photo is cover-fitted into that frame: scaled until it fills the frame completely, with any overflow centre-cropped away. Nothing is stretched or squashed, but edges can be lost, which is why the tool flags mismatched pairs. For a perfect result, crop both to the same ratio with the Aspect Cropper and resize them to the same dimensions with the Image Resizer before you build the comparison.
Does it work for edits from any app?
Yes โ this tool does not care where either photo came from. Edit in whatever you already use, export the finished version, and bring both files here: the untouched original as Before, the export as After. If you are still choosing an editor, the apps in our round-up of the top free editing apps for photographers all export clean JPGs that drop straight into this tool.
Can I compare video?
No โ stills only. A before/after video needs an interactive slider or a clip that plays the change over time, which is a different tool entirely. What you can do here is grab a still frame from each version of a video in your editor, export both frames as images, and compare those โ for thumbnails, posters and social posts, the still comparison is often the more shareable result anyway.
